Swallows rectify errors, bounce back for key win

IRYMPLE swallowed the Demons fiery victory attempts at Henshilwood Oval on Saturday take their Sunraysia Football Netball League A Grade clash 50 to 37.

The Demons scored early with Ash Morello in goal and Ava Zadow shadowing Irymple’s Tarlia Couzner in defence.

The first quarter ended up being almost an even playing game with Couzner being rotated in attack and Sam Garraway coming up from defence.

The Swallows were two goals clear at the first siren after this move.

The second quarter started with the Swallows’ Shelby Trigg scoring and Sophie Price playing well in wing defence.

Indi Spratt and Shak Delcastegne also got a few good passes in but the Demons attacking pair of Jess McNamara and Morello kept them within arms reach at half-time.

Irymple’s Samantha Garraway had a tough opponent in Zadow with the former coming up trumps in the second half.

“Sam was a better match-up to Ava Zadow,” said Irymple coach Shelby Trigg. “I think she said she’s a defender but it’s evident she’s a natural goal shooter too.”

Ash Morello for the Demons and Alice Leeder in goal keeper had a really good tussle with Leeder cracking down in defence in the last quarter.

Trigg knew the Demons had two good goal scorers in Morello and Jess McNamara and believed Leeder may have been unable to stop them.

“Alice responded immediately to this and had her best game so far this season,” Trigg said.

Irymple came away with a 15 goal win after picking up the pace in the last quarter.

Trigg was happy with this weekend’s efforts.

“It was a beautiful win coming off the loss from Wentworth,” she said. “There were too many unforced errors against them last week and we rectified that.”
